5 NBA Futures You Need to Target This Year

5 NBA Futures You Need to Target This Year

The 2024/25 NBA season has been living up to the hype for many this year, with the NBA Finals potentially going the distance.

The Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers have been going back and forth in their games, with Game 4 seeing the series tied at 2-2. Unless one of those can win the next two games consecutively, fans will get to see the two in three more games going for glory and the biggest prize in professional basketball.

The excitement that has been generated on the court already has whipped up further interest in what might happen next year. The offseason will always typically be a time where fans will look for alternative ways in which they can get more, but the next campaign might be one where fans struggle to wait as long as they normally have to.

To help make that time go past, some will engage in gaming activities. Some will play video games based on the sport, while others may even engage in a spot of casino gaming. Operators may offer basketball-themed slots or table games that can be played. For example, those who read the DuckyLuck Casino reviews that have been left may like what they see and play the basketball-themed titles they have on offer.

Still, there will be many others who will be looking to engage further in sports betting in the coming year, especially with what they’ve witnessed so far this season. While the 2024/25 NBA year is far from over, there have been many notable instances that suggest there could be a few futures to take a look at…

Oklahoma City Thunder to be NBA Champions

Although they continue to battle the Indiana Pacers for the 2025 NBA Championship and it isn’t a foregone conclusion, some have already singled out the franchise as the favorites for next year’s top prize.

The team continues to impress when on the court, being led by young players like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren. OKC’s young core is maturing and poised for a sustained run at the top. Their blend of youth, depth, and high basketball IQ makes them the team to beat, and their Finals experience only adds to their appeal.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander – NBA MVP

Crowned as this year’s Most Valuable Player, it can be rare for an individual to be the recipient in consecutive seasons. However, there have been several that have shown it is possible. SGA was crowned the 2025 MVP and many are expecting him to keep the crown once again as he continues to show dominance on the court. In the first four games of this year’s finals, he only failed to record 34+ points once. His statistical dominance (over 32 points per game in the regular season) and leadership have propelled the Thunder to the league’s elite. If OKC meets expectations, Shai is the clear frontrunner for MVP honors.

New York Knicks - NBA Champions

The New York Knicks recently fired Tom Thibodeau after they crashed out in the Conference Finals to the Indiana Pacers. However, that hasn’t stopped them from being a franchise that some are backing to do well next year. Their roster remains deep and talented, and the fresh direction could provide the spark needed to finally break through in the East. As a result, many believe the Knicks are a strong value play in the betting market, given their upward trajectory and recent playoff experience.

Cleveland Cavaliers - NBA Champions

Perhaps a slight outsider like the Knicks, the Cleveland Cavaliers had an excellent regular season in the East, as they managed to finish as the #1 seed. They finished with a record of 64-18; only OKC was better than them (68-14). The team was disappointed to see their playoff run end when they were upset by the Pacers. Next year, many believe they can go further and do what they couldn’t this season. They still have a talented and deep roster, while they also have plenty of experience. Add the fuel of this season’s disappointment, it’s wise not to count them out at the moment.

Cooper Flagg - Rookie of the Year

Expected to be heading to the Dallas Mavericks next season with the #1 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, Cooper Flagg is a player who will have the weight of the world on his shoulders when he plays on the professional court next season. However, he should be able to handle that pressure and be crowned Rookie of the Year. He is expected to make an immediate impact for the Mavs. His dominant freshman season at Duke, where he averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game and won the Naismith Trophy, has solidified his status as the top prospect and a player expected to be in the running.
